What is Dovobet?
Dovobet is an effective medication for the treatment of psoriasis. It contains the ingredients calcipotriol and betamethasone. This combination reduces the redness and flaking of the skin. Dovobet inhibits the increased production of new cells and causes skin cells to fully grow. In addition, the drug inhibits the inflammatory reaction. The skin will be restored and becomes smoother. Within a few weeks you'll notice results and you will see that the psoriasis symptoms have subsided. Dovobet is available as an ointment and gel.
How does Dovobet work?
The two active ingredients calcipotriol and betamethasone tackle psoriasis effectively. Calcipotriol inhibits cell division of the epidermis and thus reduces excessive flaking of the skin. Betamethasone is an anti-inflammatory, and ensures a less severe inflammatory reaction. Dovobet penetrates deeply into the skin and is quickly absorbed, so that it can immediately do its work. As a result, Dovobet is an effective psoriasis treatment.
The advantage of Dovobet is that you only need to apply the ointment or creme once a day. Apply the medication on the affected parts of your skin and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Psoriasis occurs primarily on the elbows, knees, scalp and lower part of the back. For the treatment of the scalp, Dovobet gel is recommended. For other parts of the body, Dovobet ointment can be used. The psoriasis treatment normally lasts four weeks. If necessary, the treatment may be continued after consulting your doctor under medical supervision.
Dovobet side effects
Dovobet causes hardly any side effects. There may be irritated or burning sensation after application. Other side effects may include itching and redness. These reactions often disappear after some time. It is possible that the psoriasis slightly worsens in the beginning. This is normal, but after some time the symptoms will be reduced. With prolonged use the skin may become thinner. For this reason, do not use Dovobet ointment for longer than 4 consecutive weeks. A complete list of possible side effects can be found in the Dovobet leaflet.
Pregnancy / breastfeeding
The effect of Dovobet during pregnancy is not known. Talk with your doctor if you may use the drug when you are pregnant. Never apply the drug to the breasts when breastfeeding. The ingredient betamethasone ends up in breast milk and this may have an adverse effect on the baby.
The use of Dovobet is not recommended for persons under 18.
