What is Ipratropium steri-neb?
Ipratropium steri-neb is inhaled into the lungs using a nebuliser device. Ipratropium Steri-Neb contains the active ingredient ipratropium bromide, which is a type of medicine called a bronchodilator. It works by opening the airways to make it easier to breathe. What is this medicine used for?
Ipratropium steri-neb is used for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The symptoms of asthma and COPD include difficulty breathing, shortness of breath and coughing. The active ingredient in Ipratropium steri-neb allows the muscles around the airways to relax and the airways to open. This reduces coughing and makes it easier for people with asthma or COPD to breathe. Ipratropium steri-neb provide about six hours of relief.
How to use Ipratropium steri-neb
Ipratropium steri-neb is used in a nebuliser machine. Follow these steps to inhale the medicine:
- Set up the nebuliser for use;
- Open one ampoule by twisting the top and squeeze the contents into the nebuliser, possibly diluted with a salt solution (only if advised by a doctor);
- The nebuliser should be used as directed by your doctor;
- Clean the nebuliser after use.
You should take care when using a nebuliser to avoid the mist or medicine getting in your eyes. Ipratropium steri-neb can cause (serious) eye problems or make existing eye problems worse.
Ipratropium steri-neb is available online in various strengths from our partner pharmacies. The doctor will recommend the right strength for you depending on your symptoms. The usual dose is:
- Adults and children aged 12 and above: one 250-mcg or 500-mcg ampoule, three to four times a day.

Be sure to inform the doctor of any medicines you are taking to avoid potential interactions between ipratropium steri-neb and other medicines.
