What is Sildenafil Pfizer?
Sildenafil Pfizer contains the active ingredient sildenafil citrate, which is a medicine called a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5). Sildenafil Pfizer causes the blood vessels in the penis to relax, allowing more blood to enter the penis when you are sexually aroused. This medicine only produces an erection in response to sexual stimulation.
What is Sildenafil Pfizer used for?
Sildenafil Pfizer is used to treat adult men with Erectile Dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence. ED means an inability to get or maintain a good enough erection to achieve satisfactory intercourse.
How to use Sildenafil Pfizer?
Sildenafil Pfizer can be taken with or without food. It should be taken about one hour before sexual activity. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Sildenafil Pfizer only produces an erection when you are sexually aroused. It normally takes about 30 to 60 minutes to take effect (or longer if you have had a rich meal) although this may vary per person. If Sildenafil Pfizer does not produce an erection, or if you lose your erection prematurely, consult your doctor.
The recommended starting dose is 50 mg. This medicine can cause you to experience more side effects or make side effects worse. Doses above 100 mg do not increase its effectiveness. Always follow your doctor’s instructions about how to take Sildenafil Pfizer. When in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Like all medicines Sildenafil Pfizer may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The side effects that have been reported are almost always mild to moderate and short lived. The most common side effects are: facial flushing, digestive problems, visual disturbances (e.g. changes in colour vision, sensitivity to light, blurred vision), nasal congestion and dizziness.
When not to use Sildenafil Pfizer
Sildenafil Pfizer should not be used if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine. (See the package leaflet for ingredients)
- You are taking any form of nitrate medication, as this can result in dangerously low blood pressure. Nitrates are commonly used for angina pectoris (chest pain). Be sure to inform your doctor of all medicines that you are currently taking.
- If you are taking products that release nitrogen monoxide, such as amyl nitrite (‘poppers’). This too can result in dangerously low blood pressure.
Drinking alcohol can temporarily impair your ability to get an erection. To gain maximum effect from Sildenafil Pfizer, we advise you to limit your alcohol consumption before sex. This medicine may cause dizziness and temporary visual disturbances. You should make sure you are aware of your reactions to this medicine before driving or operating machinery.
