What is Tetralysal 300?
Tetralysal is an antibiotic. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. The active ingredient lymecycline is a type of medicine called a tetracycline antibiotic. Lymecycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is active against a wide variety of bacteria. Tetralysal is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and deposited in the infected tissue. Tetralysal is a prescription-only medicine.
What is Tetralysal used for?
Tetralysal is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin such as severe acne (subcutaneous infections with pustules) and rosacea (redness on cheeks, forehead, nose or chin). It can also be used for bacterial infections of the lungs, bacterial eye infections, STDs and bacterial infections of the urinary tract.
How to use Tetralysal
Tetralysal capsules should be taken before meals with a full glass of water. The capsules should not be chewed, but swallowed whole. Always finish the entire course, even if symptoms such as pain, fever and inflammation have cleared up. Stopping the course early increases the chance that the infection will come back and that the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic. The length of the course is determined by the doctor for each specific patient and may vary from eight days to several weeks.
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the usual dose is:
- Adults and children aged 12 and above: one 300-mg capsule once or twice a day for as long as the doctor prescribes.
Tetralysal capsules should not be used in children under the age of 12. Always follow the prescription exactly - never use more or less than the doctor recommends. Read the package leaflet before use.
