Pfizer Viagra is the original Viagra

Viagra was invented by pharmaceutical company Pfizer

The active ingredient in Viagra, sildenafil, was originally conceived to treat angina pectoris (heart attack). Developer and manufacturer Pfizer discovered during the testing phase in the 1990s that the drug also had an erection-inducing effect, so it filed for a patent under the name Viagra. Since its launch in 1998, Viagra has become very popular among men who suffer from Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Viagra guarantees an erection in response to sexual stimulation. That is why millions of men buy Pfizer’s Viagra. It is estimated that approximately 18% of men above 18 years suffer from ED or impotence at some stage in their lives. Viagra allows them to once again enjoy sex.

What does Viagra do?

Pfizer discovered that sildenafil stops the breakdown of cyclic GMP, a chemical messenger that is released upon sexual arousal which causes blood vessels to widen. Viagra ensures the blood vessels are kept dilated for longer, improving blood flow to the corpus cavernosum in the penis. This does not only produce but also helps to maintain an erection.

Viagra takes effect within about 30 minutes and lasts for about four hours. The peak level is reached one hour after the medication is taken.

When not to use Viagra

Pfizer warns against the use of Viagra with any form of nitrate or nitrite medications, such as medications for angina or heart failure, or recreational drugs known as poppers. This combination can intensify the effect of Viagra and cause serious, even fatal, health risks. Taking this risk is never worth it!

Pfizer says Viagra should also not be used in:

  • People who have recently had a brain haemorrhage, stroke or heart attack;
  • People with serious heart problems;
  • People with serious liver problems;
  • People with a rare eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa;
  • People who are advised not to be sexually active by their doctor.

Viagra should be used with caution in patients with:

  • Haemophilia;
  • Leukaemia;
  • Sickle cell anaemia;
  • A stomach ulcer.

Be careful with Viagra that is not manufactured by Pfizer

Pfizer’s huge success stimulated other pharmaceutical companies to produce and distribute their own variants of Viagra over the years. Especially online, counterfeit (fake) Viagra was launched on the market illegally – the patent was still valid, so no company apart from Pfizer had the right to produce and market the Viagra. Now that Pfizer’s patent has expired, manufacturers are allowed to copy branded Viagra. However, many manufacturers are based in China and India, and produce Viagra clones in dodgy factories where health regulations are not up to the standards we are used to in the West. As a result, the chance of contamination is high.

First of all, the composition of fake Viagra may deviate strongly from the original by Pfizer, with serious consequences for the effectiveness and nature and extent of side effects. A study conducted by the Dutch Consumers’ Association in cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has revealed that these counterfeit clones can even contain harmful ingredients such as printer ink and cocaine.

So beware if you are tempted to buy cheap Viagra instead of the original product by Pfizer. You may be seriously damaging your health.

Pfizer’s patent has expired

Pfizer’s patent expired in June 2013. This means it is legally allowed to copy sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. And this is what is happening: reliable (and less reliable) pharmaceutical companies are producing safe versions of Viagra at more attractive prices. How is this possible? First of all, Pfizer has lost its monopoly position. This means Viagra prices are now subject to market forces based on supply and demand. And secondly, it is a lot cheaper to reproduce a medicine than to develop a medicine.

The price that Pfizer charged for Viagra was in part determined by the high costs of bringing the erection pill safely to market.

Sildenafil Teva: a generic version of Pfizer’s Viagra

Not long after Pfizer’s patent expired, a reliable global pharmaceutical company called Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. launched a generic version of Viagra under the name Sildenafil Teva. Apart from the fact that the price is more attractive, Sildenafil Teva tablets also have a different colour. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. hopes that its white pill will be able to match the success of Pfizer’s world-famous blue pill. At dokteronline.com you can safely and confidently order Sildenafil Teva in the following strengths: 25, 50 and 100 mg. We also offer the original Viagra. Difference between generic Viagra and Pfizer\'s Viagra

Before deciding between Pfizer’s Viagra and Teva’s version of Viagra, you should be aware of the differences between a brand-name and a generic product.

Generic medicines contain the same active ingredients as the original brand of medicine, but do not necessarily have the same effect. This is because generic medicines are required to contain between 80 to 100% of the active substance content of its authentic predecessor. This deviation can cause substantial differences in the desired effect and (especially long-term) side effects between the generic product and the original.
