Do you prefer to Work Standing up or sitting at your desk?

Have you tried working with a standing desk? A new trend amongst the office world that you may have seen more often in recent years.In 2014, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published an article in showing there is a link between the amount of time someone spends sitting and it can increase the chance to the development of cancer. The more someone is sitting down for regular periods, the higher the risk is for getting cancer.Thanks no good! Especially when you consider that 18-to 64-year-olds an average of sit for 9.9 hours during their working day. Studies now show that workers who used sit-stand desks were 78% more likely to report a pain-free day than those who used regular workstations, according to a recent Stanford University back pain study.

Sitting at your desk each day for more than six hours means that you don’t burn off as many calories per minute. Your Muscles stop burning fat, blood sugar increases. The amount of oxygen your body consumes decreases.

”After a year of sitting six hours per day behind a desk, it is possible that weight gain can happen and an increase in your cholesterol levels and loss of bone mass.”Sitting for longer periods of time can also cause your focus to get a bit foggy, you may risk straining your neck.

Your body may get tighter hips and the disc in your back may get damaged. It can also cause your pancreas to work overtime and become over productive.

Why are more and more office workers standing at work?

Sitting work increased risk of diseases, your cholesterol can increase and your body has to work harder to burn calories.

Sitting for long periods of time can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure and joint problems. In addition, a bad work attitude cause RSI complaints.

For this article, I searched if there are benefits sitting down while working that are known and this I have not found. It is also been tested if standing up while working improves productivity.If you stand up and work after eating your lunch it also reduces blood pressure.

How is standing while working better for you?

There are also occupations where workers frequently need to stand. Too long are also brings with it health. If you combine more than one hour, the blood is not pumped to your heart. Also, people who frequently don’t stand suffer from joint problems to the legs.

Avoid taking that seat on public transport
If your up for the challenge take the stairs and skip the lift
Remind yourself to move every 30 mins. either a reminder on you PC or phone
Try to place a laptop on a box or similar to work standing
When you get a phone call on your mobile walk around while speaking
Instead of emailing a co-worker walk over and speak to the person
Try to cut down on how much TV your watching get active you could go for a walk and listen to the radio, podcast or an interview
