What is the Test-Point Cholesterol Test?
The Cholesterol Test by Test-Point is a kit containing a test cassette that allow you to check if your cholesterol is too high. Cholesterol levels are an important factor in estimating your risk of cardiovascular diseases, so it's very important to keep cholesterol in check. The Cholesterol Test allows you to measure the amount of cholesterol in your blood whenever you want. The test is easy to use and the results are just as reliable as those obtained from a hospital blood test. When used correctly, the Cholesterol Test offers a level of reliability of 97%.
What is it used for?
Cholesterol is one of the body's fats (lipids). To some extent, the cholesterol level in blood depends on what you eat, but it is mainly dependent on how the body makes cholesterol in the liver. There are two sorts of cholesterol: a 'bad' sort called low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and a 'good' sort called high-density lipoprotein (HDL). The latter has a useful effect in reducing cholesterol and taking it back to the liver. If you have too much LDL in your blood, it can stick to the walls of your arteries and lead to hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). Arteriosclerosis occurs when your arteries become clogged and lose their elasticity, and is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease. High cholesterol levels can be caused by many factors, including unhealthy eating habits, smoking and obesity. Hereditary factors can also affect cholesterol levels. Checking your cholesterol can provide you with information on your likelihood of heart and vascular disease. With the Test-Point Cholesterol Test you can check your cholesterol quickly and easily in the comfort of your home, saving you a trip to the doctor's office.
