What is Evorel Conti?
Evorel Conti patches are a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) preparation. They are given as a supplement to women with menopausal symptoms to replace the falling hormone levels in the body. Each patch contains two active ingredients, estradiol and norethisterone, which are forms of the main female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone. These hormones are produced less and less in pre-menopause and during menopause itself. This can cause distressing symptoms. The active ingredients in Evorel Conti are released in the bloodstream through the skin to supplement declining hormone levels, which helps to reduce menopausal symptoms.
What is it used for?
Evorel Conti helps relieve menopausal symptoms, including:
- Hot flashes;
- Night sweats;
- Sleep disorders;
- Dryness of mucous membranes (eyes, vagina);
- Mood swings.
In some cases, Evorel Conti is also prescribed to prevent osteoporosis after menopause.
How to use Evorel Conti
Evorel Conti patches should be applied to clean, dry skin and replaced several times a week. Each fresh patch should be applied to a slightly different area (hip, buttocks, belly) to avoid irritating the skin. Patches should NOT be applied on or near the breasts or arms. Evorel Conti does not produce a monthly withdrawal bleed and is therefore more suitable for women whose periods have already stopped. There are other types of Evorel patches available for women who are still having periods or who have had a hysterectomy. Consult your doctor for more information.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
- One patch at a time, replaced with a fresh patch every three to four days.
Be sure to read the package leaflet before you start using this medicine.
Evorel Conti may cause side effects. The most commonly reported side effects include:
- Skin irritation at patch application site;
- Gastrointestinal symptoms;
- Breast tenseness or soreness;
See package leaflet for more side effects, warnings and contraindications.
Evorel Conti is usually not given to women in the fertile age bracket. If, in exceptional cases, this medicine is prescribed, it should not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Evorel Conti does not affect your reaction time or impair your ability to drive safely. There are no known interactions between alcohol or specific foods and Evorel Conti.
