What is Kytril?

Kytril tablets contain the active ingredient granisetron, which is a type of medicine used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting that can be caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment for cancer. Kytril is available at your local pharmacy or we can order it on your behalf from a registered pharmacy in the EU. For prescription medicines we can also arrange a consultation with a registered EU doctor.

What is this medicine used for?

Nausea is a common and debilitating side effect of cancer treatment. Kytril is used for preventing and treating nausea and vomiting. The active ingredient granisetron is a type of medicine called a 5HT3 (serotonin) antagonist. It works by blocking the 5HT3 receptors that are found in the brain and gut. This stops nausea messages being sent from these areas to the vomiting centre in the brain, thereby preventing or reducing nausea, retching and vomiting that can occur due to cancer treatments.

How to use Kytril

To prevent nausea and retching, the first dose of Kytril tablets should be taken approximately one hour before chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment. This will allow time for the medicine to be absorbed. The tablets should be swallowed whole with some water without chewing. Continue to take this medicine for no more than seven days after the last dose of chemotherapy or radiotherapy to prevent delayed sickness. If you are already nauseous, then you can take your tablets straight away. This medicine can be taken with or without food.
