What is Nizoral?

Nizoral fights fungal infections. It contains the ingredient ketoconazole. Nizoral is effective with fungal and yeast infections like thrush (in the mouth), vaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infection), lung infections and organ infections. The drug is also prescribed for Cushing's syndrome. Nizoral (ketoconazole) is often used when other medication to treat fungal infections are not sufficient enough. It is available in tablet form and as a creme.

Nizoral tablets

Nizoral tablets are used for the treatment of serious fungal infections in the mouth, throat or esophagus. But this medication is also effective with internal fungal infections. It is meant for adults and children over 2 years.
The dosage depends on the nature of the infection. Follow the instructions of your doctor. The usual dose is one tablet once per day. Take Nizoral (ketoconazole) tablets during a meal with plenty of water.

Note: Do not drink any alcoholic beverages, you may get symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting. Do not use this drug if you have a liver disease. Also do not take it during pregnancy or when breastfeeding.

Nizoral creme

Nizoral creme is prescribed to treat fungal infections of the skin. It is also used for seborrheic dermatitis. Nizoral (ketoconazole) reduces redness, scaling, itching, and pain.

With a fungal infection, you apply the creme on the affected skin once a day. Keep using the creme for a week after it has healed in order to prevent symptoms from coming back. After 2 to 6 weeks, the fungal infection has disappeared. Always follow the instructions of your doctor.

It is important that you do not apply the creme on an enclosed skin surface, with a band aid for example. Avoid the skin surface of mucosae.

Note: When Nizoral creme gets into the eyes, rinse eyes immediately with water.
Are you pregnant? Talk to your doctor whether you should use the creme. As far as we know the drug may be used while breastfeeding, but do not apply the product directly on the breasts.
