What is Omnic?
Omnic is a medicine that is used to treat urinary problems. It contains the active ingredient tamsulosin. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and reduces contraction of the smooth muscles in the prostate and urethra. This allows urine to flow freely through the urethra, reducing the constant need to pass urine.
What is Omnic used for?
Omnic is used in treating lower urinary tract symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The prostate gland, which is found only in men, lies at the top of the tube connecting the bladder to the outside (urethra). Common symptoms of BPH include frequent sensation of having to urinate, dribbling after urination and urinary hesitancy or retention (weak urinary stream).
How to use Omnic
One Omnic capsule should be taken once a day at the same time each day, preferably after breakfast. The capsule should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not crushed or chewed. Always follow your doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions on the use of Omnic. See the package leaflet for more information on the use of this medicine. Omnic is not suitable for children under the age of 18.
Take one capsule a day, preferably after breakfast or the first meal of the day. If you have forgotten to take a dose, you may take it as soon as your remember that day. If you have forgotten to take a dose for a whole day, just leave out the missed dose and take your next dose as usual when it is due. Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten one.
Like all medicines Omnic may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects include:
- Abnormal ejaculation. Semen is released into the urethra, but instead of travelling out the tip of the penis, it is pushed backwards into the bladder. This is nothing to worry about.
See the package leaflet for a complete list of side effects.
When not to use Omnic
Omnic should not be used if:
- you are hypersensitive or allergic to the active ingredient tamsulosin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
- you have a serious liver condition.
See the package leaflet for a full list of side effects.
Omnic does not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, this medicine may cause dizziness so caution is advised. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Omnic. Alcohol may intensify side effects.
