Indometacin

Indometacin is a strong, anti-inflammatory painkiller (NSAID) that contains the active ingredient indometacin. Indometacin works by slowing down the body's production of prostaglandins, a substance that increases pain signals to the brain, and therefore relieves pain quickly. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is also used to reduce the symptoms of inflammation, such as swelling, redness of the skin and fever.

What are Indometacin capsules used for?

Indometacin is prescribed when milder painkillers, such as paracetamol, are not effective or effective enough. It can be used to treat inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions in which pain is the primary symptom, such as muscle and (rheumatic) joint problems (e.g. bursitis, Bechterew’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lumbago), menstrual pain, post- operative pain, pain from injuries, the flu or other pain.

How to use Indometacin capsules to treat inflammation and pain

Indometacin is available in capsule form for oral administration. The capsules should be swallowed whole with some liquid, preferably with or directly after meals to avoid stomach problems. Long-term use may be necessary for some conditions. If you have a sensitive stomach and need to take Indometacin for a longer period, your doctor can give you a stomach liner.
