What is Theranal used for?
Haemorrhoids are small, swollen blood vessels found around or inside the anus which cause symptoms such as itching, burning and pain. They develop when increased pressure on the pelvic veins causes veins in the anal canal to swell or bulge, for example due to straining on the toilet, obesity or pregnancy. Theranal ointment and suppositories contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, which quickly alleviates uncomfortable symptoms such as itching and pain in the anal area. The added ingredients zinc oxide and bismuth nitrate oxide help dry out the swollen and engorged veins, allowing the haemorrhoids to shrink and heal faster.
How to use Theranal
Theranal haemorrhoid ointment and suppositories can be ordered online from our partner pharmacies. The ointment can be used to treat internal as well as external haemorrhoids. If you have internal haemorrhoids, the ointment should be inserted into the rectum using a rectal cannula. Theranal suppositories should only be used to treat internal haemorrhoids. Theranal should be used twice daily, in the morning and evening, and after each bowel movement. Clean the anal area thoroughly and dab dry before using this product. For more information, see the package leaflet. If Theranal doesn’t provide adequate relief, or if you have very painful or bleeding haemorrhoids, then you should seek medical advice.
Theranal ointment and suppositories are generally well tolerated. Some people may experience a temporary burning or warm sensation after applying the ointment or inserting a suppository.
