What is Viagra Connect?

Viagra Connect is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men by improving penile blood flow.

What is Viagra Connect used for?

Erectile dysfunction (impotence) is a common condition characterised by the inability to achieve or maintain a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. Viagra Connect contains the active ingredient sildenafil, which improves blood flow in the penis, enabling an erection to be achieved and maintained, resulting in satisfactory sexual performance.

How to use Viagra Connect?

You should swallow a single Viagra Connect tablet with water approximately one hour before sexual activity commences. If food is consumed at the same time as Viagra Connect this may delay its onset of action - results will be seen more quickly if food is not consumed at the same time.

Dosage

The recommended dose is one 50 mg tablet taken approximately one hour before sexual activity commences. The dose may be decreased to 25 mg (for example in patients with severe kidney function impairment or liver cirrhosis) or increased to 100 mg (the maximum dose permitted). The recommended frequency is one tablet per day. If you cannot achieve a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity after several separate instances of taking this medication, you should consult a doctor.

Side effects

The most common side effects experienced after taking Viagra Connect include:

  • Headache;
  • Hot flushes;
  • Indigestion;
  • Nasal congestion;
  • Dizziness;
  • Nausea.

However, many people do not experience any ill effects. More details can be found in the package leaflet.

Who should not take Viagra Connect?

Viagra Connect is not approved for use in men under 18 years of age and caution should be applied to anyone with poor cardiovascular health, given that sexual activity has an associated cardiac risk. Furthermore, due to a lack of research, Viagra Connect is not recommended in people with severe liver function impairment, hereditary degenerative retinal disorders or low blood pressure. Viagra Connect should not be taken if you are taking any other medication for erectile dysfunction or prescribed medications for other conditions such as HIV or pulmonary hypertension. It is important to mention any other medication you are taking to the pharmacist.

Fertility / driving ability / alcohol

Viagra Connect did not affect sperm viability or motility when tested in healthy volunteers.
As excessive alcohol consumption can temporarily reduce the ability to achieve an erection, it is recommended that large quantities of alcohol are avoided prior to commencing sexual activity when taking this medication.
Although no studies have been conducted on the effects of Viagra Connect on driving ability, it is advisable not to drive due to common side effects including dizziness and altered vision.
