Eklira Genuair is a medication delivered via inhaler – instead of taking a tablet or liquid, you inhale a powder into your lungs using a device provided for you by your doctor as part of your prescription. When is Eklira Genuair used?
Doctors prescribe the Eklira Genuair inhaler for the treatment of COPD, a condition where the airways and air sacs in the lungs are damaged or blocked as part of a long-term ailment. Eklira Genuair is not intended for asthma attacks, or other breathing issues where emergency treatment might be necessary. Instead, you will only be prescribed an Eklira Genuair inhaler if you have a condition which causes your airways to be permanently damaged. Importantly, your doctor will only prescribe Eklira Genuair after assessing your medical condition and health history carefully. Substances like Eklira Genuair can have an impact on the blood vessels and the way that the heart functions, and your doctor will need to monitor the effects of this medicine on your heart, which could mean that you need to agree to regular check-ups when using the drug.
Usually, an Eklira Genuair inhaler can eradicate or help to improve the symptoms of COPD such as tightness of the chest, shortness of breath and persistent cough. The impact of Eklira Genuair can last for up to 12 hours if taken correctly.
How do you use Eklira Genuair?
Before you begin any new treatment, it is important to make sure that you understand how to use the medication provided to you. When a doctor prescribes Eklira Genuair, they will tell you how to use it, how often to take the medication, and how to prepare your inhaler for treatment. Some doctors may be able to offer a demonstration on how to use an inhaler if you have never used one before.
If you have any concerns or questions after visiting your doctor, you can read the manufacturer information printed in the inside of the inhaler packaging. This should provide you with useful information about the active ingredients in Eklira Genuair and how to look after your inhaler.
Eklira Genuair is delivered as an inhaled medication. You will need to breathe the medication into your lungs using the inhaler provided. To begin, remove the protective cap from the inhaler and press the green button on the device once. This will release a dose of the powder treatment into the device. Exhale slowly and place your lips around the mouthpiece. When you are ready, inhale deeply through the inhaler, holding your breath for between five and ten seconds so that the powder has a chance to settle. When you start breathing out again, you may feel the urge to cough, or you may feel nothing at all.
Rinse your mouth with water to remove any of the leftover powder that may cause a bad taste in your mouth and replace the protective cap on the inhaler. If possible, it is a good idea to use your Eklira Genuair inhaler at the same time every morning and evening. This will reduce your risk of forgetting to take a dose of your medication. If you do forget to take your Eklira Genuair inhaler for any reason, take it as soon as you remember, as long as it is not too close to your next dose. Do not use multiple doses together to make up for a missed dose.
What dosages are available?
Eklira Genuair is a maintenance treatment for COPD. This means that you will need to use your medication regularly, often every day, to get the most benefit from it.
