What is Xipamide 20 mg used for?
Xipamide 20 mg is used to remove excess water from the body by increasing urination. It can be used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and oedema (excessive fluid retention due to heart failure or liver/kidney problems).
How to take Xipamide 20 mg?
Xipamide 20 mg is best taken first thing in the morning at the prescribed dose. It is important to avoid alcohol while on this medication.
Dosage
Xipamide 20 mg should be taken as directed by a healthcare professional. For high blood pressure the dosage is 1 20 mg tablet per day, taken orally first thing in the morning. For oedema the dosage is 2 20 mg tablets per day, taken orally first thing in the morning.
Side effects
Some people may experience the following common side effects while taking Xipamide 20 mg:
- Headaches;
- Muscle cramps;
- weakness;
- Nausea;
- Vomiting.
Other less common side effects include:
- Tiredness/exhaustion;
- Anxiety/agitation;
- Dizziness;
- Dry mouth;
- Sweating;
- Palpitations;
- Stomach pain/constipation/Diarrhoea;
- Dehydration.
Serious side effects such as difficulty breathing, facial swelling or a severe rash should be reported immediately as it may be necessary to stop taking Xipamide 20 mg.

Who should not take Xipamide 20 mg?
Xipamide 20 mg should be avoided by anyone allergic to the ingredients, or those with medical conditions such as diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease gallstones or currently experiencing vomiting or diarrhoea. Xipamide 20 mg is not recommended for anyone over the age of 65 years.
It is important that any medications are mentioned to a healthcare professional, particularly other diuretic medications, high blood pressure medication, anti-diabetic medication or heart medication.
Pregnancy / driving ability / alcohol
Xipamide 20 mg should not be taken by anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or hoping to become pregnant.
Caution should be taken if operating machinery or driving as Xipamide 20 mg can affect reaction speed.
Alcohol should be avoided during treatment with Xipamide 20 mg.
