What is Bettamousse?
Bettamousse is a foam that is used to treat inflammatory disorders of the scalp. It contains the active ingredient betamethasone, which is a topical corticosteroid. What is Bettamousse used for?
Bettamousse is used to treat inflammatory disorders of the scalp such as certain forms of psoriasis and eczema. These skin disorders are accompanied by symptoms such as itching, pain, swelling, redness and scaling. Bettamousse reduces these symptoms and protects the skin from further infection.
How to use Bettamousse
Make sure your hair and scalp are dry before you use Bettamousse. Massage the foam into the areas of the scalp that need treating in the morning and evening. Do not rinse out, but leave to work the whole day or night. You can wash and dry your hair before applying the foam. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying this product and avoid contact with the eyes.
Warning: Bettamousse is highly flammable. Keep away from naked flames or lit objects, such as gas and electric fires and lit cigarettes, or other sources of heat such as hairdryers while your hair is impregnated with this product.
Bettamousse is not suitable for prolonged use. If your symptoms have not improved after seven days, you should consult a doctor. If Bettamousse does achieve the desired result, you can gradually discontinue use. Start by applying the foam only once a day, then every other day, then every third day and so on.
Dosage
Unless otherwise instructed by a doctor, the usual dose is:
Adults:
Dispense a golf-ball sized amount of foam and apply to the scalp twice a day. Massage in gently.
Children aged six and above:
Dispense a small amount of foam (half a golf ball) and apply to the scalp twice a day. Massage in gently. This product should be used no longer than five to seven days in children and is not suitable for children under the age of six. Read the package leaflet before use.
Side effects
Although most people will not experience any, the betamethasone in Bettamousse may cause some of the following side effects:
- Thinning of the scalp;
- Striae or groupings of fine blood vessels becoming prominent under the skin at the application site;
- A red facial rash.

When not to use Bettamousse
Bettamousse is not suitable for everyone and should not be used if you are allergic to betamethasone or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if your scalp is infected. Consult a doctor on the use of Bettamousse if you have a skin condition that is not listed above, the skin on your scalp is broken or you are currently taking medication.
Pregnancy/driving ability/alcohol
If you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding, only use Bettamousse with a doctor’s approval. Betamethasone does not interact with alcohol or affect your ability to drive safely.
