Felodipine

Felodipine is a calcium channel blocker (calcium antagonist). It relaxes the muscles and dilates the blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the oxygen demand of the heart. It is prescribed by physicians for high blood pressure, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias, and Raynaud's disease. Usually, you do not feel that you have a high blood pressure. It is a silent killer that increases the risk of heart disease. Felodipine ensures that the blood vessels relax by blocking calcium that is responsible for the pressure of the blood vessels.

It is best to take the medication at a fixed time, for instance in the morning with a light meal, or at night before you go to bed. This will help you remember to take the medication. In case you do forget, skip the forgotten dose. Do take your medication every day to prevent the symptoms from coming back with all its consequences. After 3 to 6 weeks, you have reached the optimal effect. You will only notice this by regularly checking your blood pressure. If Felodipine works well for you there is a chance that you may need to use the medication for the rest of your life.

Most of the side effects occur at the beginning of the treatment, or after an increase of the dosage. Usually they are temporary. The most important side effects at a glance:

• swollen ankles and lower legs
• headaches
• dizziness
• tingling sensation

• hypersensitivity to Felodipine
• pregnancy and when you are breastfeeding
• during a shock
• during an acute heart attack
• with narrowing of the great cardiac vein

Felodipine is available in the variants 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg. Store Felodipine below 25 º C and not in the refrigerator. This drug should not be used after the expiration date.
