Onbrez is a form of inhaler that uses the active ingredient indacaterol to tackle issues like COPD. Indacaterol is a medicine that belongs to a group of drugs called long-acting beta agonists. Onbrez works on the receptors in the lungs known as beta receptors. By stimulating these receptors, the substance can cause the muscles in your airways to relax, allowing you to breathe more easily. In conditions where the airways narrows, such as COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, it's difficult for air to exit and enter the lungs normally. However, by opening the airways, Onbrez can make it much easier for you to breathe. Onbrez doesn't open the airways as quickly as short-acting agonists like terbutaline or salbutamol. Instead, it's intended for long-term use, when you want to make sure that the airways can stay open for periods of at least 24 hours. On the other hand, substances like terbutaline only act for up to 5 hours. Onbrez is taken using a breezhaler - by inhaling the medication directly into the lungs, you can ensure that you get the biggest impact from the drug as quickly as possible. This often means that you won't absorb as much of the medication in Onbrez into your blood as you would if you were to take it in tablet form, too.

When is Onbrez used?
Onbrez is a type of bronchodilator that widens the airways and relaxes the muscles around your airways so that you can breathe more naturally. Your doctor will prescribe this medication to help eliminate the side effects and symptoms associated with COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), such as trouble breathing or wheezing.
Unlike other inhalers for COPD, Onbrez needs to be used on a regular basis, often every day. When used regularly, this long-acting medication will stop you from encountering as many attacks of breathlessness as you might have without medication. Onbrez is not a rescue treatment if you're suffering from sudden loss of air. Onbrez should not be prescribed as a solution for anxiety attacks, as it doesn't address the breathing problem instantly.
Onbrez may be combined with other forms of medication, including rescue inhalers, to provide a more comprehensive treatment strategy for people with COPD.
How do you use Onbrez?
It's crucial to use your breezhaler properly when you're given Onbrez. If you're not sure about how to use an inhaler, ask your doctor to demonstrate for you before you begin using Onbrez. You will also be able to follow the instructions that are provided on the patient leaflet inside the medication package. If you have any questions, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
The inhaler created for Onbrez is intended to be very easy to use. To begin, make sure that the inhaler is clean, and remove the cap. Hold the base of your device and tilt the mouthpiece upwards to open the inhaler, ready to take your medication. You will need to remove a capsule from the blister packet included with your inhaler and put it into the chamber of the inhaler. When you close the device, you will hear a click. This indicates that you're ready to pierce the capsule.
Hold the inhaler as normal and press both of the buttons on each side of the device at the same time, you will hear the capsule being pierced. Release the side buttons, and exhale away from the inhaler. Once you have emptied your lungs, place your lips around the mouthpiece, and close your mouth firmly around it. Breath in normally and hold your breath for around 5 to 10 seconds at the top of your inhalation. You can then breathe out as usual.
Remove the empty capsule from the inhaler and replace the cap. Make sure that you use your inhaler at the same time every day as possible. This will help you to remember to use your medication regularly. If you forget to use the inhaler, take it as soon as you remember. If you don't remember to use your Onbrez until the next day, skip the missed dose.
What dosages are available?
Onbrez is available in a range of different doses depending on your needs. The most common strength for the capsules is either 150mg or 300mg. Your doctor may start by giving you the 150mg capsule, before moving you up to the 300mg if they feel you need a stronger treatment. This will give them a chance to see whether you tolerate the medication well.
Unless your doctor advises otherwise, the typical dose of Onbrez for most people is one capsule inhaled once per day, at the same time each day. It is not a good idea to use this substance if you are under the age of 18. Do not swallow the capsules included with the inhaler.
