What is Xatral?
Xatral is a medicine that relieves the urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and contains the active ingredient alfuzosin. Xatral is a type of medicine called an alpha 1 blocker, which causes the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder neck to relax. This allows urine to flow freely from the bladder and relieves the urinary symptoms.
What is Xatral used for?
Xatral is effective in reducing the symptoms of BPH, a condition which causes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to contract, obstructing the urethra and thus the flow of urine from the bladder. This can cause various urinary symptoms, such as difficulty passing urine. Xatral relieves urinary symptoms by relaxing the muscular tissue, allowing the bladder to void properly.
How to use Xatral
Xatral tablets should be taken once a day after dinner with a glass of water. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not chewed, broken or crushed. Xatral is most effective if taken at the same time each day. If you have taken more than the maximum dose, consult a doctor or pharmacy immediately. If you have missed a dose, do not take a double dose of Xatral to catch up – wait until your next scheduled dose and resume your normal treatment routine. See the package leaflet for more information on the use of Xatral.
Dosage
Take one tablet daily after dinner. Xatral is available in two strengths: 2.5 mg and 10 mg. Your doctor will determine the right dose for you depending on your specific needs.
